Veer Babu Kuer Singh, front runner of the firs war of Independence, who instigated the rebellion of 1857, defeated the British with his very small army. His personality will continue to inspire many generations to come. He will remain a symbol of national independence and self-respect.
The battle of 1857 which is considered the first of Independence is very important in the history of India. The first battle against the British rule was fought in this year and at the age of 80, Veer Babu Kuer Singh raised standard of rebellion for the first time while leading Shahabad against the English government. He had given complete independence to Shahabad and threw away the yoke of British government and so April 23 is celebrated every year as Victory Day to commemorate this victory of Babu Kuer Singh over the British rule.
