ELDERLY PERSON SHOT DEAD IN BHOJPUR DISTRICT

ARA----------------------------Some unidentified armed miscreants shot dead an elderly person while sleeping at Durjanchak village under Koelwar police station in Bhojpur district from point blank range. The deceased was identified as Sadhu Rai 75 son of late Ram Ugara Rai of Durjanchak village. He worked in a private company in Oridhsa and was living in the village and was engaged in agriculture for the last 20 years after retirement. The police recovered the body and brought it to the Ara Sadar Hospital postmortem. An FIR was lodged with the police under Koelwar police station and the police are investigating the matter and also conducting raids to arrest the miscreants. Reason behind the incident is still to be ascertained.

Sadhu Rai was sleeping at some distance from his house in the village after taking meal when some unidentified armed miscreants shot him dead while sleeping from point blank range and escaped. When he did not come to the house for morning tea, the family members went to the verandah to wake him up where they found him dead in the pool of blood. Later the family members informed the police.

Rahul Kumar, grandson of the deceased said that his grandfather had gone to the verandah after taking meal at about 7.30pm. He further said that he had seen that five persons of the village near a Middle School was telling him to register his land and filed in their name two days ago otherwise they would kill him. He added in the year 2020, both the groups had clashed and exchanged fire in which one person of other groups was killed. A named FIR was lodged with the police under Koelwar police station against 17 persons including his grandfather Sadhu Rai at that time and all were arrested and sent to jail but now all of them are on bail. Rahul Kumar said that Sadhu Rai came to the house in the everyday for tea but he did not come today and so they went to the verandah where he was lying dead in the pool of blood. Rahul Kumar blamed Sanjeev Kumar, Guddu Kumar, Joginder Rai, Harikesh Rai and Gautam Rai for killing his grandfather.

It may be mentioned here that two groups had exchanged fire on September 28, 2020 to capture a barren land in the village near Community Hall in which over a dozen persons were injured and one Siya Ram Singh was killed.
