Ara, 10 June 2023, (RNI): Under the Central Government’s Clean Indian Campaign, Namami Gange and State Government’s Lohia Swachchh Mission, Ara Municipal Corporation procured mobile toilets to fix the cleanliness system in Ara and to get rid of filth and garbage but it did not live up to its purpose and the cleanliness mission of Central and the State governments have been eclipsed.  The mobile toilets instead of being saved from filth, are standing idle on the roadside like filth themselves and are used now dumping place of garbage owing to indifferent attitude of the officials of the Ara Municipal Corporation (AMC). Resentment prevails among the residents of Ara against the officials of the AMC.

The government has planned to provide facilities of mobile toilets in the areas like market places, bus stops, vegetable markets and other densely populated areas so that the residents of the town and passengers who do not have to defecate in the open, may use these mobile toilets but due to the negligence of the officials of the AMC lash all hoped to the ground.

The AMC purchased 20 mobile toilets with the estimated cost of Rs. 1.30 crore (each toilet costs Rs. 65 lakh) to install them at public places so that rickshaw pullers, handcart pullers, labours and others who do have their own toilets can use them and contribute in maintaining cleanliness at Ara but it failed due to indifferent of the officials. Initially the AMC provided all facilities such as water and soaps for cleaning hands but within a week these mobile toilets were rendered unclaimed. Despite, the mobile toilets were to be provided on payment to the organizers during marriage ceremony and other programmes so that no one had to opt open field for defecation but the AMC did not propagate and so not a single booking took place so far. People said that it was just misuse of public money and added that the officials are getting plump on the taxes they paid. They always planned such schemes in which they may allegedly earn more and more.

At present, all the mobile toilets are in poor condition due to negligence of the officials of the AMC and they are rusting on roadside and are used as dumping box of garbage.

Municipal Commissioner. AMC, Niroj Kumar Bhagat said that the mobile toilets should be maintained so that the very purpose of government to keep the town neat and clean might be fulfilled but unfortunately it could not be so. He added that he would try his best to maintain the mobile toilets henceforth.
