Journalist Unions Demand Strict Action Against Attackers of Journalists in Dhanbad

New Delhi (RNI) Journalist unions across the country have demanded strict action against a local Congress leader and his family members for allegedly attacking journalists in Dhanbad, Jharkhand.

The demand was led by Sushil Bharti, President of the India Chapter of the SAARC Journalist Forum, along with Indian Journalist Association Chief Ramnath Vidrohi, Periodical Press of India President Dr. Surendra Sharma, and United Indian Journalist Society Chief Umendra Dadhich. They have urged the Jharkhand government to arrest the accused under the Goonda Act and called upon Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to expel the leader from the party.

The incident occurred on April 16, when Dhanbad District Congress Executive President Rashid Raza Ansari and his family members allegedly entered the Dhanbad Press Club and physically assaulted several journalists. A police case has been registered, but no arrests have been made so far.

In protest, the Dhanbad Press Club has appealed to all editors to boycott Ansari, while Mr. Bharti staged a sit-in protest in front of the Gandhi statue, condemning the attack and seeking justice.
