ARA-----------------------------Bhojpur police with the help of STF, acting on a tip off, conducted raid at the house of Sumit Kumar Yadav at Jurabganj Naya Tola under Koira police station in Katihar, said to be the main member of the dreaded Kodha gang and recovered Rs. 4.90 lakh though Sumit Kumar Yadav escaped from the scene.
Some unidentified armed miscreants had snatched Rs. 4.90 lakh from a government employee of Buxar near the Western Over Bridge at Ara. During investigation, it came to light that the members of the dreaded Kodha gang had snatched the rupees. The police, after getting the order from the court, handed over the money to the victim.
ASP Parichay Kumar said that on May 13, 2025, some motorcycle borne unidentified armed miscreants attacked Sumant Kumar Yadav of Arak village of Buxar district near Western Over Bridge at Ara under Nawada police station and had snatched Rs. 4.90 lakh from him at pistol point. An FIR was lodged with the police under Nawada police station in this regard on the statement of Sumant Kumar Singh. After institution of FIR, the police swung into action and started investigating the matter. The ASP said that one of the miscreants was identified as the member of the Kodha gang from the CCTV footage of the area. A police team was also formed under the SHO, Nawada police station Vipinn Bihari to recover the money and also to arrest the miscreants. The police team with the help of the STF Kodha Cell, conducted raid at the house of Sumit Kumar Yadav at Jurabganj Naya Tola under Koira police station in Katihar, said to be the main member of the dreaded Kodha gang and recovered Rs. 4.90 lakh though Sumit Kumar Yadav escaped from the scene. Besides, Sumit Kumar Yadav, two other miscreants were also involved in the incident. They have also been identified and raids are being conducted to arrest them.
It may be said that in the past, the Kodha gang has carried out snatching incidents at Ara many times. However, in two incidents the police succeeded in recovering the money snatched from two persons including CRPF personnel.
Sumant Singh, a resident of Arak village under Krishnabrahm police station in Buxar district works in a government job in Siliguri but his family lived in Sarvodaya Nagar at Anaith locality under Nawada police station at Ara. He had come to Ara from Siliguri to attend a marriage ceremony in his family. When was going to his house on May 13, 2025, in an e-rickshaw after withdrawing Rs. 4.90 lakh from the State Bank of India at Katira, motorcycle borne armed miscreants snatched bag full of money near Western Over Bridge under Nawada police station and escaped from the scene.
